The American Gold Eagle Bullion Coins are the
main instruments of choice for investment purposes.
If you want to purchase physical gold bullion directly,
I highly recommend the gold Eagles.
They are aesthetically pleasing as well as they are a store of value.
As opposed to The American Gold Eagle Bullion Proof Coins,
which are more for numismatic or collectors value.
The proofs, with their mirror finish, are even more beautiful than the Bullion Coins.
The U. S. Mint introduced a third coin,
the American Gold Eagle Uncirculated Coins, in 2006
which are also for numismatic or collectors value.
